A Workbook for vibraphone and marimba players

Project Description, January 1, 2014

A Workbook for Vibraphone and Marimba players consists of three parts with a total of nine books. These books are written for students at university level. They cover musical and technical problems that you will be working on throughout your entire professional career.

These books can be used by vibraphone and marimba players within all musical styles, even if they are written with the classical player in mind.

- PART I: A Book of Essays

In this book I discuss a number of problems you will encounter on your way to become a performing artist. This book is not only for vibraphone and marimba players, but for students on all instruments.

- PART II: A Workbook for vibraphone and marimba players

Book 1: About playing Marimba and Vibraphone

Book 2: About practicing Scales and Chords

Book 3: Instrumental Technique I

Book 4: Instrumental Technique II - Tremolo

Book 5: About Improvisation

- Part III: A Book of Etudes

This is a collection of 45 etudes: one half for marimba solo, the other half for vibraphone solo. In these etudes technical issues discussed in part II are put within a musical context. The etudes will at the same time constitute a set of 45 variations over a given theme, in 45 movements. A performance will usually consist of a small number of variations/movements. However, the work can also be performed as a whole, with a total playing time of approximately three hours.

A Workbook for Vibraphone and Marimba players is published (in Norwegian) by Musikk-Husets Forlag.
An English version will follow soon.
